of

JYOTHISHMATHI INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE

on 15-09-2012

The NSS Unit of Jyothishmathi Institute of Technology & Science organized  Shramadan and Tree Plantation programmes  on Saturday,  15th Sept. 2012   from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm in the college premises. The Shramadhan & Tree Plantation Programmes were inaugurated by Shri J. Sagar Rao Garu, Chairman of Jyothishmathi Group of Institutions and he congratulated both faculty and students for organizing such Community service programmes.

A function was held on that Occasion at 2.30pm in the Seminar Hall of the college attended by HODs, Faculty members, NSS committee members and more than 300 student volunteers. Principal Dr A. R. Naseer Garu addressed the gathering by highlighting the need & significance of NSS activities, combined participation of student & faculty in Social Service to build a better society where they understand themselves in relation to their community, identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving, develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility, utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems, develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities, gain skills in mobilising community participation, acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes, develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and  practise national integration and social harmony. The cardinal principle of the programme is that it is organised by the students themselves and both students and teachers through their combined participation in social service, get a sense of involvement in the tasks of national development. Besides, the students, particularly, obtain work experience which might help them to find avenues of self-employment or employment in any organisation at the end of their university career.

Principal further explained the  Motto and Significance  of Symbol & Badge of National Service Scheme (NSS). The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration to '/other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is well doctrined in this motto, which underlines/on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

The symbol for the NSS has been based on the giant Rath Wheel of the world famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Orissa, India. The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space, The symbol thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social change. The NSS Symbol is embossed on the badge. The eight bars in the wheel represent the 24 hours of a day. The red colour indicates that the volunteer is full of young blood that is lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

The Principal  emphasized the significance of cleanliness to enjoy healthy mind in healthy body. His special focus was on the necessity of inviting more and more students to take active part in Community Service Activities. He asserted this by stating the slogan  Learn through Community Service” .  Mrs. Radhika Reddy, Coordinator of the NSS Unit conducted the proceedings. Mrs. V.Gayathri Rani, Asst. Professor, MBA Dept. delivered the welcome address and Mrs. V. Neelima, Assoc. Professor, CSE Dept. proposed  Vote of Thanks.

As soon as the function was over, all the student volunteers were directed by the members of the committee to the ground where they planted crotons and Rose plants. The Chairman of the college Sri J.Sagar Rao garu, Principal Dr. A.R. Naseer garu, NSS Coordinator Mrs. K.Radhika Reddy and Faculty members also participated in the program with a great enthusiasm and inspired the students by planting the trees. The students also placed bricks as barricades, making a map of foot path on the ground. Eventually, the ground attained a glorious look. The committee decided to proceed with the same inspiration, enthusiasm  and zeal to enhance the beauty of the college campus.
